Maldives has won the Indian Ocean's Leading Beach Destination award at the World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony. 17 resorts and tourism companies from Maldives also won top awards. The winners will move forward to the Grand Final in Morocco later in the year. The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.

CJL Investment Pvt Ltd has launched Kunaavashi Island Retreat & Spa, a five-star boutique resort in Vaavu Atoll. The resort is expected to open in December 2016 and is the first resort development in Maldives by private investors from China.
